Outreach and Lesson Plans

I am extremely interested in engaging in educational (and fun) outreach for people of all ages!

UNC Science Expo

The Castillo Lab is involved every year at the UNC Science Expo as a part of the North Carolina Science Festival with a booth about coral reefs and the specific research we conduct. Check out the link for more information about the event and for future dates!

Sharing Coral Skeletons

North Carolina Aquarium – Ft. Fisher

I have been involved with volunteering at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher off the coast. I worked as an education intern and a dive volunteer, teaching visitors about the diverse ecosystem off the NC coast.

SciREN is a local organisation that aims to bring together educators and local scientists to share their research in the form of usable lesson plans. I have participated in both the coast and triangle workshops and presented a lesson plan on pH and Ocean Acidification. You can access the lesson plan outline here, but feel free to email me for the rest of the supplemental materials. Ocean Acidification- Are Our Oceans Really Turning into Acid_
